While it requires a substantial amount of solar energy to produce an Aurora in the lower regions of Michigan, with careful planning, unwavering determination, and a bit of good fortune it is possible to witness this unique phenomenon.

Several times over the past few years I have been rewarded for planning and persistence. Glenn Haven, Saugatuck and Crystal City Michigan were locations for pictures in this gallery.

Glen Haven, Michigan, proved to be the perfect location for viewing, and I was able to capture some of the most beautiful shots of the Aurora Borealis. Despite the freezing temperatures, I was completely absorbed by the ethereal beauty of the natural spectacle.

The Little Sable Point Lighthouse near Silver Lake Michigan, also served as a beautiful backdrop for a return showing of the lights. A little shorter in duration and not quite as dominant in the sky, but equally as stunning and engaging.

Crystal Lake and Saugatuck Michigan were venues in May of 2024 for two nights in a row when the lights appeared. Waiting for around 3 hours before the skies lit up at Oval Beach. The lights in Crystal were among the most powerful seen in many years.

I hope that the photos can transport you to those magical nights when stars and lights merged perfectly, creating a show worth waiting for.
