Sometimes, you just get lucky. The plan was to shoot the Milky Way over the lighthouse in Ludington State Park, but the lights around the building made that shot impossible. However, finding a small pond on our way out, I saw an opportunity for another image with the Milky Way reflecting in the water. After several shots, I thought I would shoot away from the light pollution and aimed the camera north. I didn’t see the Aurora until they lit up on my computer screen. This shot shows the northern side of the Milky Way, without the core and a fantastic light column reaching into the sky.
